    2-D - Painting / Drawing/ BNW Spring Show 2016

As a young woman, I attended the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Art in Dijon, France. So began a life-long love of travel and, with the help of my sketchbook, seeing and experiencing the world more intimately. My paintings are a passionate response to places I encounter. This passion produces over one hundred plein air sketches per year. My larger studio work strives to capture the gestural energy of the sketches and my personal emotional response distilled to the essentials. I use acrylic paint mixed with modeling paste on a canvas support. The acrylic is layered with charcoal, handmade paper pulp and resin. Sgraffito and scumbling techniques create details in motion, sculptural surface elements and intense color vibrations. Many pieces are asymmetrical diptychs and triptychs with the side panels used as an abstract visual extensions both framing and creating movement beyond the picture plane.
