Jerry Hill DesignsBNW Fall Show 2018/ Metal
My work ranges from carved and cast jewelry in silver, gold, abalone, and fossilized ivory, to cut out designs in copper sheet that's formed into curves and bends and embellished with fused and formed glass from kilns. These pieces can be lighting fixtures or sculptures. The main emphasis of my designs have come from my life in the Northwest, from Washington to Alaska. I studied with Bill Holm at the U of W, and later went on to teach Northwest art at the U of Alaska, Juneau. All my designs are my own, from my knowledge of form line design. I also like to improvise other sculptural forms incorporating both contemporary and ancient materials. These have become parodies of cultural norms.
