Barbara DeCaro left the land of the living in April. She was a key member of the Northwest Art Alliance Board of Directors serving as both the Treasurer and the Grant Coordinator. Her efforts in obtaining grants kept this nonprofit organization on track through Covid and opened new doors for creative support. Barb will be celebrated for her indelible spirit, loyalty, love of family, and joy of travel. Her life is a testament to the desire to see it all—learn, teach, and the power of consistent advocacy. She will be remembered for her dedication to helping others, her infectious personality, lifetime of service to parks, her amazing knowledge of plants, and her community service. Barbara was a zealous advocate for access, art, and access to art. She demonstrated these values bringing her energy to the support of art, both with NWAA and the Arlington Arts Council. Barbara’s friendly smile welcomed folks to the “Best of the Northwest” shows. For artists, she was the smiling wine server as the pre-event pizza dinner… and if you gave her a chance, she would critique the wine along with the art found at the event. Even if her collection was full, she believed there was room for “just one more” as she always purchased art to support artists. Her legacy will continue to inspire, and she will be greatly missed.
