Engayla

Engayla - Angela Ehrig

Inspired by textural richness, muted monochromes, geometric prints, jacquards, and contemporary double-faced or natural fibers, I explore diverse tools and techniques. Sometimes using the materials as they are, or transforming them through dyeing, discharging, silk screening, stamping, painting, appliqueing, deconstructing, and redesigning.
When Spring and Summer arrive, I practice the art of eco-dyeing and eco-printing on protein and cellulose fabrics using botanicals like leaves, seed pods and flowers. I bundle this organic matter within fabric layers, then steam to transfer the plants' pigments and shapes through direct contact. My creative process flows organically - drafting patterns via flat patterning or draping fabrics on dress forms. Garments and accessories evolve from this explorative approach, unfettered by preconceptions. Each garment emerges as a one-of-a-kind or limited-edition wearable art piece designed to celebrate the wearer's unique beauty through self-expression.
