Kris Albro - Meltdown Metal Art
I work directly from nature or original photos creating watercolor thumbnails. From there I begin the process of mapping out the piece. Each piece is completely made by hand. Each line and dent a hammer stroke. I begin with working from the inside out. First creating the most intricate first. For instance each tree made will need at least three different thicknesses for the branches. Those will be cut, textured and molded. Then each piece is welded into place. Once welded I take a gas torch and heat up the piece giving it the desired effect and look. I then will turn my attention to the background. If using copper I with either apply chemical to assist with the patina, heat and quench to create pinks, browns, and reds, or I will give it a textured effect.
