Margaret Swanson-Vance - White Horse Design
Using traditional sewing techniques, both machine and hand, I stitch my flying animals from various fine fabrics. I use cotton prints, satins, metallics and any others that catch my fancy. After designing the pattern and stitching them together on the machine, the rest is all handwork. I trim, turn, stuff and sew shut. I sew on the wings, which I have machine-quilted and finish the faces, using beads or rhinestones for eyes. Horse's manes are either feathers, fur or fringe. Ultrasuede or leather is cut for tiny feet or tails. They all have a thread to hang them, ornamentally.
