When I see a ball of clay, I see loons, sealions, songbirds, and otters, waiting to emerge. Holding a piece of clay in my hand, I think about how I can transform it from such an elemental form to something with grace and breath. I want to capture the essence of my subject. Whether it is a sculpture of a bird with its head cocked, about to take flight, or a polar bear cub looking at its mama, I want my art to imbue a sense of connection to nature.
