Langdon Henry IV - Henry House Studio
Each box begins with a hand-built core structure, finished with carefully selected veneer. The forms are consistent, but the materials make each piece distinctly the same, yet always different. To accentuate the natural grain, I apply up to four layers of dye before finishing. I source wood from a wide range of places: regional mills, private collections, estate sales, salvage yards, and occasionally hardware stores, where exceptional figured boards sometimes appear unexpectedly. Each lid is hinged and finished with a small square inlay of abalone or mother-of-pearl as a quiet focal point, and the interiors are partially lined with felt. Because many veneers come from small or singular finds, each box is made in very limited numbers.
