Tamara Lee Fine Art

Tamara Lee Fine Art - Tamara Lee

I have spent the past couple of years exploring the oxidation of various metals (leaf applied to sealed wood panels) to create a unique, intriguing, backdrop for painting my realistic nature subjects in oil.

My work always stimulates curiosity and attention with the public.

For me personally, as a scientific illustrator with a horticultural degree, it ‘pushes my buttons’ so to speak, because of the uncontrollable nature of the medium. I refer to this as my ‘control & chaos’ art process.

I use various organic acids and salts on the metal to stimulate oxidation and tarnishing. It’s done outdoors in all weather conditions, so with nature as my collaborator, every piece is unique before I ever start to paint.

I’ve stabilized the resulting panels for archival peace of mind and investment.
