Tonie Arabi - Fanglasstic
I work in dichroic fused glass. Most of my pieces use black backing glass for maximum contrast and visual impact, if you've ever seen black opal, you know how this looks. I occasionally use a white backing glass for it's pale, almost spiritual beauty. I place my backing glass in a kiln, then a varied mix of shards and laser cut pieces in layers to create visual complexity and richness. Finally I place a clear cover sheet, and fuse for 3 days at a precise temperature allowing fusion without excessive flow. This preserves the complex character of the pieces joined. I make this final glass into a universe of smaller laser cut pieces, personal accessories, and decorative plates, bowls, vases, and boxes.
