Cathryn and Keith Bassett - White Pelican Designs

White Pelican Designs is a fusion of sculptural modern art and classical style. The shape, color and vibration inspires to create a setting unique and symbiotic with the stone. We use fabrication with hot and cold connection, determining the metal: silver, karat gold or gold leaf- that best represents its essence - often mixing the metals. Next we determine the movement of the stone and let it shape the design. We begin by tracing the basic shape on the metal and drawing the design around it. Next we choose bezel or prong to secure it, solder bezel to backplate adding structural detail and additional stones if desired. Techniques employed are soldering, fusing, forging, dapping and Keum boo. Finally we polish and/or oxidize.
