Erica Duke - Erica’s Critter Corner Ceramics

I am inspired by animals. I am extra inspired by animals that fly as I have always been drawn to the wind and sky and I love to make moths and insects because they go through so many transformations during their lifecycles. I use mostly porcelain clay and sometimes will use stoneware clay or earthenware if the specific critter calls for it (for example I love to use a stoneware clay with magnesium in it for speckled critters). I also use underglazes and glaze on my critters. I like to leave sections of my pieces unglazed or with only underglaze for the contrast with the eyes and wings from the bodies. I hand build each piece individually using pinch pots, slabs and coils.
