Mary Enslow

Mary T. Enslow

I am a sculptor working primarily in hand-built ceramic. I earned my BFA in Sculpture from the University of Washington in 2003, concentrating in metal casting, and later studied in Rome. In 2009, I shifted my practice to clay, drawn to its tactile immediacy and capacity for texture, gesture, and form. My work centers on the female figure and is constructed using traditional hand-building techniques including slab building, coiling, and solid construction. Forms are developed slowly and intuitively, then refined through multiple firings with layered oxides and glazes. Surface plays a central role in my work, shaped by hands, tools, and found materials to create sculptures that emphasize physical presence and material depth.
