The specific name for my form of art is "Mixed Media Encaustic". I create my art typically starting with an underpainting that is done often on hand made papers using watercolors, inks, pigments and alcohol inks. I affix the underpainting to a birch art panel, and then build up layers of hot encaustic medium (combined with pigments for color) to create depth and texture in the surface. Alternatively, I also do "photo encaustic", where I use one of my photographs or digitally created prints as a basis, and affix to an art board and then apply hot encaustic media over the surface.
