Allison Guiliotis - Go Play Clay
I make my forms on the potter's wheel out of stoneware. I've been throwing with custom handmade ribs that I cut out of laminated plastic sheets. This allows me to get a consistent and crisp profile. For my pieces that are striped, I typically start with a handmade rib, but then switch to a small textured rib. I often put the pot back on the wheel to brush on a wax resist, then dip it into the glaze. My work is then fired in a gas reduction kiln between cone 9 and 11.
