My work explores a wide range of textural effects, form and color with techniques of nuno felt, dyeing, embroidery and stitching. I love to create my own textiles for my garments and felting is one of the few methods that an artist can use to do so. Nuno felt is a process of felting that molds loose fiber to sheer fabric by the controlled application of water, soap, friction and heat. By using fine base weave fabrics & manipulating finer fibers such as silk, soya, flax, banana with minimum amounts of fine wool, a light textile with many possibilities for exciting texture & diverse characteristics & dimensions can be created that drapes fluidly. I love working with vintage Indian sari fabrics with their unique hand-crafted colors, patterns & natural fibers as the base fabric. I dye my elements I use to hand embroider and embellish my garments. My handcrafted process is environmentally-friendly, using natural, renewable materials in a stitch-free technique that makes each garment unique.
