Kia Metzler Holden

Kia Metzler Holden - Kia Zora

I create my artwork using Golden acrylics on medium-weight canvas and panels. I start with large filbert or flat brushes to lay broad washes, establishing depth and tonal contrasts. As an intuitive painter, this stage is foundational to gathering and even creating concept. I transition to smaller brushes, refining the composition and adding details while still allowing the work to unfold. My technique also involves “glazing” applying transparent layers to build complexity and depth. As Imagery continues to emerge, I use by reference photos and instinct to create the content and elements of my painting.. This process mirrors the themes of regeneration and “transformation” central to my exploration of life, change, and our interconnectedness with nature. The act of layering and refining reflects the natural cycles of growth and metamorphosis.
