Mark McNerney - Herron Island Creations

We repurpose local hardwoods from fallen and storm damaged trees. Every knot, grain pattern, and imperfection become a part of my collaborative work to capture stories of time and symbolize the resilience of both nature and humanity. Each unique piece dictates the process which may include roughing, boiling, drying, infusing portions with naturally colored resin, finish turning on the lathe, sanding, and finally applying a finish that allows the piece to be both purposeful, as well as a display of stunning art. The process, both tooling and what is left natural, are done to ignite an emotive response in those who engage with my art, inviting them to contemplate the splendor of nature and their place within it.
