Melissa Metzler

Melissa Metzler - Cedar Street Design

We make highly evolved wooden boxes and other small wood items. Everything we make is laser cut and finished by hand - technology intensive, but not mass produced. We like wood and we like to play. Each design is an opportunity to learn more about our craft. Our designs are all original and inspired by nature and geometry and our own experiences. We want to please eyes, hands and hearts. Melissa's work often includes woven or knitted elements and dyes. Dan's work includes intricate layers, a variety of hard woods, geometric shapes and light. Increasingly we are creating limited editions and limited series of objects. Even though we use a computer and laser cutter to produce our work, each item is glued, sanded, and finished by our own hands. We use a variety of different woods and dyes in our work. In addition to our small scale work with boxes we have both created public art installations, masks for theatrical events, and other group projects.
